Why we love this supplier

Our Ethiopia collection is entirely produced in a small family-owned factory, a thirty minute drive from the capital city Addis Ababa.

Locally produced, traditional leather goods are a staple in Ethiopia.  Everything is done by hand, from the dying to the cutting to the stitching, and great care and pride is taken in the craft.  All the material is produced on-site in their own tannery, sourcing rawhides from the free-range herds of cattle and goats which co-inhabit the city.

Their story

Hussein studied chemistry in the United States before returning home to take over his father’s leather tannery.  With the help of his eleven brothers and sisters, he recently expanded into manufacturing, specializing in traditional local goods such as sandals.

How did we connect?

In 2016, Myriam was invited to an economic development conference Kenya,hosted by COMESA.  There she met many inspiring entrepreneurs, one of which was Hussein!
